Labeling debate continues

The omnibus spending bill is set to be voted on today, and if it passes, the deadline for mandatory food labeling will be delayed for two years from the current Sept. 30 date. Separately, food retailers are pushing for a voluntary labeling rule in lieu of a mandatory law. FMI President and CEO Tim Hammonds said, "The current law is so burdensome that no one wanted, even on a voluntary basis, to try to implement it in its current form."
