AOL expands search-based ads

As part of its mission to redefine itself both as an open Web property and a subscription-only ISP, AOL next week is rolling out expanded search functions, including refined geographic-based search options, that offer advertisers text ads and will charge advertisers based on customer contact rather than on a cost-per-click basis. AOL also uses Google as a search partner and the ISP is Google's largest outside source of advertising commissions.
