To overcome collapsing consumer spending, Starbucks is rolling out a new line of independent-style coffeehouses brewing small-batch artisanal coffees and catering to local tastes. The move away from standardized outlets is an attempt to recapture the energy and buzz that originally powered the company's expansion, says CEO Howard Schultz. "We lost our way," he adds.
