TAP developing replacement for Prevacid

Faced with declining sales of its blockbuster heartburn drug Prevacid, TAP Pharmaceutical Products is working to come up with a next-generation product, according to officials of Abbot Laboratories, half owner of TAP. Competition from over-the-counter Prilosec and other heartburn drugs has pushed Prevacid sales down sharply, and some health plans are encouraging use of the less-expensive Prilosec.
