Ban's shuttle diplomacy and the Gaza cease-fire

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's week-long visit to the Middle East took him to 14 cities in a marathon effort to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. However, some observers question Ban's influence in establishing the current cease-fire. Ban's trip also highlighted what the BBC calls "complex and often fraught" ties between the UN and Israel.
