Big ideas for the SBA

Although not yet confirmed, Karen Gordon Mills, President Barack Obama's choice to head the SBA, has already revealed some of her priorities for the agency. She has said she'd like to see loan programs that differentiate between the short-term credit needs of Main Street businesses and the long-term equity capital required by "high-impact, high-growth small businesses." She is also a fan of economic "clusters" -- innovative businesses with wide geographic reach that help to attract additional suppliers and investment to an area.
