Ambitious building projects at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are helping to offset the construction slowdown in other parts of the state. School officials say about $600 million in projects are now under construction, and $450 million are in planning stages. A mixed-use project that includes rental housing, a rooftop garden and retail space also features a new student center that will open this week. Officials expect to open a new research complex in 2010.
