Increasingly close vote is expected on Bernanke's confirmation

The Senate confirmation vote for Ben Bernanke to be granted a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve appears to be even closer than was expected only a few weeks ago. While Bernanke's term ends Jan. 31, the vote will not take place until next week at the earliest. Bernanke needs 60 votes to maintain his position. "A few Democrats have publicly said they won't vote for Mr. Bernanke's appointment, so you need Republican support," said Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin, D-Ill.
