U.S. official proposes importation ban on pythons, other large snakes

U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on Wednesday announced a proposal to ban the importation as well as the interstate commerce and transportation of Burmese pythons and eight other types of snakes. Salazar said these snakes are threatening fragile U.S. ecosystems, such as those in the Florida Everglades. The proposed ban will be published next month and open for public comment for 60 days.
