Judge: Online travel firms owe Hawaii $150M in taxes, penalties

A tax appeals court judge in Hawaii has ruled that more than $2.7 billion in hotel sales made by online travel firms including Orbitz, Expedia and Travelocity since 2000 are taxable under the state's general excise sales-tax law. The judge has ordered the OTAs to pay about $110 million in overdue general excise tax as well as $40 million in interest.
