Medicaid expansion will boost access to mental health care

States that chose to expand Medicaid will be able to offer more mental health coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The federal government will pay the entire costs of new Medicaid enrollees for the first three years and will cover 90% beyond 2020. A Congressional Budget Office report finds that 13 million more Americans would receive mental health coverage via Medicaid if all states were to adopt the expansion.
