Hospitals pay more attention to women's cardiac health, prevention

Hospitals are putting increased emphasis on women's cardiac health, creating special centers with multidisciplinary teams that focus on heart disease risk factors and education about prevention. "Our goal is preventive treatment, and we see patients early -- before they develop their heart attacks, strokes, symptoms of congestive heart failure and other cardiovascular risk," said Dr. Indu Poornima, director of the women's heart center at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
