Social studies teacher assesses students with Founding Fathers projects

California middle-school social studies teacher Aaron Brock experimented this year with using a history poster project as a way of assessing students. The project required students to work in groups to assess the successes and failures of Founding Fathers George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Brock writes in this blog post that shifting away from tests "forced me to reflect on whether that is the most important way to check for understanding."
