Illinois state board says governance is not the problem with public education

Illinois State Board of Education members characterized Gov. Rod Blagojevich's recent proposal that the state education agency be replaced by a Cabinet-level body as a "red herring" and a power grab. Board members called for a meeting with the governor to discuss ways to improve public education, an offer the administration rebuffed as more excuse-making.
