San Francisco's schools chief hopes for smoother relations with school board

Just five months ago, Superintendent Arlene Ackerman was ready to quit the San Francisco Unified School District out of frustration over her rocky dealings with some school board members. Now that she's received a contract extension through 2007, the district's first female and first black schools chief hopes to put politics behind her.
