Southwest announces Q4 loss, full-year profit

For the first time in almost 18 years, Southwest Airlines has reported two consecutive quarterly losses. The discount carrier's fourth-quarter loss of $56 million was driven largely by accounting requirements for fuel hedges. Minus such special items, Southwest posted an operating profit of $70 million on a revenue gain of 9.7%. For the full year, Southwest said it earned $178 million.
