Construction of one of the largest wind farms in the world was launched Thursday in Mexico by energy company Acciona Energia. The $550 million farm is being built on the isthmus between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean where winds blow at 15 to 22 mph. The 6,180-acre wind farm will generate enough electricity to power a city of 500,000 people, the company says. The primary town in the area is called La Ventosa, which means "Windy" in English.
