Canada's REITs are bracing themselves for a boom year as yield-oriented investors look for somewhere to put their money that generates strong returns. "REITs are in a desirable position because capital is both cheap and plentiful," said Michael Smith, an analyst at Macquarie Securities. "They are buying more properties, and that means they will be able to pay higher distributions." Because of uncertainty about the economy, REITs in Canada were very cautious with their dividends in 2009.
