Carolina West eyes broader rural N.C. coverage with grant

Carolina West Wireless is in the planning stages of implementing a $20.7 million federal grant designed to expand cellphone coverage in rural North Carolina counties. "The goal of this grant is to bring these areas up to speed with the rest of the nation over the next two years," said Jackie Mallory, a vice president at Carolina West. Carolina is drawing the funds out of the Federal Communications Commission's $300 million "Mobility Fund" program.
