Compost to boost growth of some green roofs on NYC buildings

Food waste from buildings owned by the Durst Organization in New York City will be turned into compost to feed green roofs installed by the real estate property company. The firm will spend between $750,000 and $1 million to install about an acre of vegetated roofs on eight of its buildings in Manhattan. "Green roofs are an increasingly important part of our urban ecosystem," said Helena Durst, who launched the plan.
