Ohio State University said it will begin a pilot project to change how it pays caregivers at Wexner Medical Center, including its employed physicians, using aspects of accountable care organizations that include fixed payments and a focus on value rather than volume. “We need to move to a model where we're looking at population management, and providers are reimbursed for keeping people healthy, said Michael Rutherford, Wexner's former chief financial officer, who is heading up the project.
