Greater scrutiny of audit committees comes from many quarters

The role and responsibilities of the audit committee have come under a closer watch by regulators and industry watchdogs. Officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission's Office of the Chief Accountant have noted audit committees' obligations to focus on quality of results and auditor independence. In addition, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board has provided questions for audit committees to ask engagement quality reviewers.
