Bush proposes funding boost for USDA food safety programs

President Bush will ask Congress to increase the USDA's fiscal 2004 budget to $797 million, a $42 million increase from the previous year. The money will help pay for 7,680 food safety inspectors, an increase in testing and sampling for foodborne pathogens and an increase in agriculture biosecurity.
