Increased testing urged for partners of HIV patients

Los Angeles health care providers are stressing the importance of HIV-testing for the sexual partners of HIV-infected patients after a new testing program revealed surprisingly high rates of the disease among partners. Standalone HIV testing centers usually see positive HIV rates of about 3% to 5%, but when the Los Angeles County Medical Center added a testing clinic for sexual partners of patients, HIV-positive rates soared to 30%.
