Baidu gets go-ahead to become news portal

Top Chinese search engine Baidu has one-upped rival Google by gaining government permission to operate its own news portal, instead of just listing news search results. "This is definitely competition for Google," said Doug Crets, a Hong Kong-based researcher at Media Partners Asia.
