Ed Rendell's proposal to increase nurse practitioner care is one of the most promising aspects of his cost-containment plan for health reform, writes Tine Hansen-Turton, executive director of the National Nursing Centers Consortium and vice president of Philadelphia Management Corp. NPs often encounter reimbursement and regulatory barriers as they strive to expand care for all, and Hansen-Turton calls on insurance companies, medical providers and decision-makers to support NPs and nurse-managed care.
