NBCU to cut back on expensive pilots to reduce costs

NBC Universal, the corporate umbrella for NBC and several top cable networks, will eliminate or reduce its reliance on expensive pilots for new series next season to cut costs brought about by the ongoing writers' strike and recession in the economy, NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker said Tuesday. Zucker also cited the uncertainty of pilot episodes to determine the future success of shows and poor prime-time ratings as other reasons for the move.
