Fatah sees Hamas as rising authority in Palestine

Veteran Fatah leader Husam Kadr says Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has been discredited and that Fatah's authority is waning in the wake of Israel's brutal three-week war against Hamas, which destroyed much of the Gaza Strip. The failure of Abbas and Fatah to speak out against Israel's campaign has unified many Palestinians behind Hamas, despite its near destruction at the hands of Israel. In recent years, Hamas has become a more militant organization, launching rockets into southern Israel after Israel failed to fully open the Gaza border crossing with Israel -- terms now under negotiation.
