Southwest freezes fleet growth through 2010

Following an earlier announcement that it would not add new planes to its fleet in 2009, Southwest Airlines said yesterday it was extending that policy into 2010 amid efforts to trim capacity by 4%. To achieve its goal of zero fleet growth, Southwest will have to ground or sell older planes in addition to renegotiating delivery dates on new planes with Boeing Co.
