Early traumatic brain injury may impair later development

Two small studies in the journal Pediatrics linked early severe traumatic brain injuries in children with impaired cognitive development and intellectual capacity later in life. In the first study, researchers said that lower socioeconomic status, high parental stress and low parental involvement had an impact on children's recovery. Both studies showed that mild traumatic injuries did not affect children's intellectual abilities.
