Sony claims big advances in image sensors for cameras

Sony Executive Vice President Tadashi Saito vowed to remain "two or three steps ahead of rivals" with the introduction Monday of three back-illuminated image sensors that the consumer electronics giant said would improve the picture quality on smartphones and other equipment with cameras. The stacked sensors are more energy-efficient and faster, Sony said, adding that it would embed the technology in 8- to 13-megapixel cameras.
