Vending machines at Louisiana schools offer healthy options

Some schools in Louisiana are testing new Fresh Healthy Vending machines that have replaced candy bars and soda with items such as pita chips, soy milk and applesauce. Seventeen schools in Jefferson and Orleans parishes are testing the machines, which are part of a larger wellness initiative at the schools. Officials say the healthier vending options are intended to help address childhood obesity.
