FDA moves quickly to implement, expand oversight of compounders

The FDA is moving quickly to issue guidelines and regulations, pressing companies to register and seeking state support to strengthen its control over drug compounders that operate as drugmakers. Fourteen outsourcers had registered as of the middle of this month, reflecting the agency's effort to rapidly implement the Drug Quality and Security Act, Jill Wechsler writes. The FDA also plans to update lists of drugs that may or may not be compounded.
