Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus reaches Canada

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus was detected on a swine farm near London, Ontario, and at a rendering facility near Montreal, officials announced this week. The virus had been expected to cross the border from the U.S., where it is present in 23 states, because it can be spread via contaminated feces on boots, trucks and clothing. Estimates put PEDv swine deaths in the U.S. at between 1 million and 4 million.
