Source code betrays GM marketing secret

General Motors hoped to keep people guessing with a multimarket outdoor advertising campaign that revealed one word per day of a new slogan. The nationwide effort was linked under the banner of the Web site www.findthemessage.com, and it was in the site's unencrypted source code that guessers found the answer to GM's puzzle before the campaign was even half over.
