Vermont officials look to tweak state's low student-teacher ratio

Education costs in Vermont are rising while enrollments are declining, a situation forcing state leaders to consider pushing the state's 10.9-to-1 student-teacher ratio up to 12-to-1 or 13-to-1. Opponents contend increasing class size would be "absolutely disastrous" in a state that's consistently ranked among the best in the nation on the National Assessment of Educational Progress.
