$5B Tappan Zee work will create 2,800 construction jobs a year

Work could begin on New York's Tappan Zee Bridge replacement in August now that the state has released its draft environmental impact statement, indicating there would be no "significant environmental obstacles" with the project. The 8-lane replacement bridge will not initially include mass transit but will have bike and pedestrian lanes. The statement estimated that construction could last up to five-and-a-half years and cost between $3.5 billion and $5 billion. The project will employ about 2,800 construction workers annually.
