Seattle copes with snowstorm by using location-based data

Location-based technology was crucial to helping Seattle residents cope with a recent snowstorm, but the technology still could have been put to better use, according to Bill Schrier. GPS trackers showed where streets were passable, and GIS maps revealed where power was out. Schrier proposes placing GPS trackers on all county vehicles and transportation systems, as well as using social media such as Facebook and Twitter to keep citizens up to date on conditions.
