Expert: Time Warner Cable wants it both ways with sports costs

Time Warner Cable seems "to be talking out of both sides of [its] mouth" by criticizing the high cost of sports programming while spending big to grab its stake of the lucrative segment, according to sports industry consultant Marc Ganis. The cabler is said to be finalizing a long-term TV deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers that's worth $7 billion to $8 billion. The deal, in which Time Warner Cable will supplant News Corp.'s Fox Sports as the Dodgers' TV partner, could push the Federal Communications Commission "to finally demand a la carte programming," Ganis said.
