Goetze: Despite price cut, U.S. sugar price still too high

A 6.9% increase in sugar production for the year ending Sept. 30 means prices will be lower for confectioners, analysts predict. However, "the price U.S. manufacturers pay for sugar is still considerably higher than the world price our competitors overseas pay," said Mitchell Goetze, president and CEO of Goetze’s Candy. "Confectionery manufacturers have enough challenges in our everyday operations without also having to struggle against a government program that arbitrarily restricts the supply of sugar."
