Minn. program uses active learning in preschool math, science lessons

Educators at Moorhead Community Education's Early Childhood Family Education program in Minnesota say introducing preschool students to basic math and science concepts through play can provide a good foundation for kindergarten. The center offers classes for children as young as 2 years old in which they learn about counting, sorting, math games and more. "Math and science particularly lend themselves to those activities because they are so hands-on and concrete," center director Lauri Winterfeldt said.
