Newly approved influenza vaccine is made without chicken eggs

The newly approved Flublok vaccine for adults can be produced more rapidly than other influenza vaccines because it does not use chicken eggs in the manufacturing process. Manufacturer Protein Sciences said it uses an insect virus expression system and recombinant DNA technology to create a vaccine that has three times the active ingredients of other vaccines and is 44.6% effective against all circulating flu strains.
