New Jersey says it has issued licenses to more than 1,200 home-improvement contractors since Nov. 1 last year. This could be attributed to the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, which damaged about 10% of the houses in the state, according to estimates by Gov. Chris Christie's administration. The uptick in licenses raises concern that out-of-town contractors are crowding out local companies on repair jobs.
