Pentagon reverses military's ban on women in combat

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday that the U.S. military would lift its ban on women in combat. "Women have shown great courage and sacrifice on and off the battlefield, contributed in unprecedented ways to the military's mission and proven their ability to serve in an expanding number of roles," Panetta said. The deadline for implementing the change is January 2016.
