Proposal to build $1.25B Ill.-Ind. highway moves ahead

The release of a "record of decision" by the Federal Highway Administration approved the route of the proposed Illiana Expressway that would link Illinois and Indiana is a milestone for the project. The 47-mile road would cost an estimated $1.25 billion. No funding is currently available for the project, but officials could opt for a public-private partnership and it could become a toll road.
