AWHONN congratulates Kathleen Rice Simpson for NCC President's Award

Kathleen Rice Simpson, Ph.D., RNC, FAAN, a perinatal clinical nurse specialist at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, has won the National Certification Corp. President's Award. Dr. Simpson was a member of the AWHONN Nurse Staffing Task Force that produced AWHONN's "Guidelines for Professional Registered Nurse Staffing for Perinatal Units." She has been a science team leader for several of AWHONN's evidence-based guidelines and is the principal investigator for the AWHONN Nurse Staffing Research Project. She has worked with hospitals, health care systems and several statewide initiatives to develop strategies to improve the nurse work environment and promote perinatal patient safety and quality outcomes. Kathleen is the co-editor of AWHONN's Perinatal Nursing, 4th edition, and the author of AWHONN's practice monograph, Cervical Ripening and Induction and Augmentation of Labor.
