A mobile application that allows users to set up tabs at restaurants and check out on their own is the subject of trials in several bars and restaurants in New York. The Dash app uses Bluetooth technology and a back-end system for customer relationship management. "I think that for the restaurant and bar business, this type of payment is going to be really relevant in the next few years," said Daniel Rieger, partner at The Royal, a bar that is experimenting with Dash.
