Va. university president donates money to raise workers' minimum wage

Minimum wage for 121 workers at Virginia's Hampton University is now $9 an hour, following a $108,403 donation from the school's president. The workers, mainly maintenance and cafeteria staff, had been earning the state's minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. President William R. Harvey and his wife, Norma, have donated money twice in the past to raise wages for workers at the historically black college. "They are a member of our team, and I appreciate them, as does my wife," Harvey said.
