Merrill Lynch's O'Neal picks up $48 million in compensation

E. Stanley O'Neal, chairman and chief executive officer of Merrill Lynch, was paid $48 million in 2006 -- a 30% pay hike from a year earlier. Word of the pay hike comes just days after the company reported it had earned a profit of $7.5 billion for the year.
