Wal-Mart moves strengthen marketing-merchandising link

Wal-Mart Stores CMO John Fleming is returning to his merchandising roots by assuming the new position of chief merchandising officer, while Steven Quinn, an SVP heading market research and strategy efforts, takes over the top marketing post. The shift should allow marketing to assert a stronger role in product development, store design and promotions of new items, insiders said.
